GLENROTHES UNVEIL 1978 AND 1988 VINTAGES

Los Angeles, CA(Spiritsman)8/28/12/—Glenrothes Scotch Whisky Single Malt have just unveiled their 1978 and 1988 vintages, and yes we got a chance to try them at a private tasting held at the brand new Parish restaurant in Los Angeles. Brand ambassador Ronnie Cox was at the tasting, and his passion for the Glenrothes brand was clear to see. He must have been a History Professor in his previous life as he recounted the entire history of the company that was founded in 1879. Today only 2% of the entire annual production becomes the Glenrothes Single Malt.

The 1988 vintage goes for $180 a bottle, and this has been matured in a combination of Spanish and American Oak barrels, previously seasoned with sherry and bourbon.

This vintage will be available at prime retailers until the casks run dry, and if you want to try a dram before shelling out the cash, then I know for sure you can try it in Los Angeles at the following bars: Parish, Seven Grand, The Rosewood or Eveleigh. The 1978 vintage is even more special at $695 a bottle and goes great with desserts.

First bottled in 2008 and distilled in Speyside at the village of Roches, with the finest malted barley and Highland Spring water, this whiskey was first bottled in January 2008. It could also be the last we will see of the 1970’s vintages from Glenrothes.

What that means if you are a serious whiskey drinker or even an investor, make sure you get your hands on at least one bottle as it will only appreciate in value over time. The vintage is made up of a small selection of casks hand picked by Malt Master John Ramsay at the peak of their maturity. The bottle itself is packaged in a copper and oak frame.

As far as the tasting notes on the 1978 vintage, it is of course very long, rich and sweet, with a bouquet of spicy plums and a palate of oak, vanilla and white chocolate. In short, an absolute delight to sip.
