HOLLYWOOD (Spiritsman) 10/15/18/–We are fans of the Mionetto Prosecco and consider them great value for the money and we are also impressed with the range that is available in the brand. The Mionetto brand comes from the Valdobbiadene and Coneglio regions of Italy which is in North Eastern Italy. The fruit is produced using the Charmat method with the alcohol levels ranging between 9% and 11%.
Prosecco is not the kind of drink you hang on to for a long time and is best consumed within six months of purchase with a maximum shelf life of eighteen months. The Mionetto brand was created in Italy by Francesco Mionetto in 1887 and in 1998 the brand was introduced to the USA which is also the first time that Prosecco was really made avaiable to the American market. In 2009, Alessio del Savio was promoted to head winemaker and the numerous Industry awards have continued to flow since his tenure.
The Prosecco Brut DOC like all the sparkling wines in the Portfolio is harvested from alluvial soil with a major presence of clay and the grape is Glera which is harvested the second half of September. The wine from the soft pressing of the grapes must be separated from the skins and the second fermentation which is the Charmat method takes place in temperature controlled stainless steel. At a retail price of just $14, this is a drink with hints of golden apples, pear and honey and can be consumed as an aperitif or used in Prosecco cocktails. The Mionetto Prosecco DOC which retails for $16 uses organic Glera grapes has notes of elderflower and green apple, and It also goes particularly well with Gorgonzola, dates or figs.
The Mionetto Gran Rose uses a blend of red varietal grapes which are left to macerate for a few hours giving the sparkling wine that vibrant and brilliant peach color. A slightly higher alcohol content of 11.5% for this wine which has an aroma of pink grapefruit, pomegranate and black currant.
Top of the line for the brand Mionetto is the Luxury Cartizze DOCG Which is still excellent value at $35. Cartizze is actually a micro-zone inside the DOCG area of Conegliano-Valdobbiadena that harvests the Glera grape exclusively. This is a wine that also benefits from the Charmat method and is particularly matched with shellfish and any Elegant fish dish. With an aroma of apple and pear with hints of citrus this wine also goes with desserts, cakes, pastries, fruit salads and tarts.
Soft and creamy on the palate with an aftertaste of sugared almonds,
How can you go wrong with this wine or any in the Mionetto collection?
