HOLLYWOOD (Spiritsman) 1/5/18/–Our creative process is inspired by the Tommyrotter’s Club, a band of rebellious craftsmen and artisans in the early 20th century who broke rank from the Arts and Crafts Movement to create for creation’s sake. They sought adventure, mischief and inspiration in nature. Their work honored an industrious spirit of back, hand and heart.

Housed in the historic F.N. Burt Building, a 115-year-old paper box factory, Tommyrotter Distillery produces award winning vodka, gin, bourbon and whiskey in small batches. Recent awards include:

AMERICAN GIN:

  • 2016 San Francisco World Spirits Competition SILVER MEDAL
  • 2016 Denver International Spirits Competition SILVER MEDAL
  • 2016 Ultimate Spirits Challenge 92 POINTS

SMALL BATCH VODKA:

  • 2016 San Francisco World Spirits Competition SILVER MEDAL
  • 2016 Denver International Spirits Competition SILVER MEDAL

A bit of Tommyrotter company philosophy, passion and dedication is detailed below:

SPIRITS MADE WITH BACK, HAND AND HEART

We try to remember that life is about living, but our spirits always come first. Our products are distilled from American grains. We push the boundaries of spirit categories. We challenge you to ponder the difference between good and great. We promise to distill and produce batch by batch. We fill and label every single bottle manually. We work with our backs and hands. We obsess over our spirits with heart and mind.

During the spring, summer, and fall months, the glass-walled mezzanine tasting room provides visitors a unique view of the entire spirits making process while sampling the complementary gin, bourbon, whiskey and vodka. Visitors may also purchase bottles to take home and recreate their favorite drink recipes or perhaps concoct entirely new ones.

During the winter months the Distillery is closed to the public thus allowing the company to focus their time, attention and resources on expansion plans, distribution, and exploration and development of new products.

Gin is a spirit that derives its flavor predominantly from juniper berries. In the US, gin must be no less than 40% ABV (80 proof) and must exhibit the characteristic flavor of juniper berries. Each manufacturer of gin and vodka seem to have their own flavoring ingredients. Botanicals, fruit, nuts, flowers, various roots, and a myriad of other ingredients are mixed/measured/matched and added to gin and vodka to produce the exact flavor that distiller is seeking.

Kay Schroeder Tastings Notes

In my recent taste test of Tommyrotter American Gin, I observed several characteristics.

  • First taste perception: A momentary hint of oiliness that vanished almost immediately.
  • The aroma is mildly spicy and pleasant.
  • For the person who appreciates bold, upfront, botanical flavors, he or she will love this gin!
  • Those who are accustomed to enjoying gin that has a more subdued aroma and flavor may find this gin a little bold with the initial tasting. However, with subsequent sips, that boldness seems to be attenuated a bit.
  • Emotional appeal: The story of how Tommyrotter Distillery was conceived, planned, executed, and came to fruition is very appealing.

As their motto says, “We obsess over our spirits with heart and mind”. Distillers Bobby and Sean have accomplished their dream and have established a fine spirits company.

If you are a blogger, check out this site http://www.tommyrotter.com/blog/ as described by the staff below.

Welcome to On The Floor, our blog named after our in-house slang for working on the production floor. Amidst distilling, barreling, bottling and labeling, we muse and laugh. This is the place where you can learn about what and who inspires us, what we’re doing and thinking and everything else we talk about when we’re “on the floor.”
