TRUE MYTH WINES FROM SAN LUIS OBISPO
CHARDONNAY AND CABERNET SAUVIGNON LAUNCHED
San Luis Obispo,CA(Spiritsman)8/9/16/–True Myth wines hail from San Luis Obispo where the winemaker is Christian Roguenant, and the focus is Chardonnay from Edna Valley and Cabernet Sauvignon from Pasa Robles. The Niven family pioneered grape growing In the Edna Valley in 1973 with the planting of the Paragon Vineyard. True Myth 2014 Chardonnay benefits from the vineyards being located only five miles from the Pacific Ocean, and with a retail price Of $18, it compares well with the California wines of similar price, despite the fact that it is becoming increasingly a crowded market. Fermentation takes place in 50% French Oak barrels and 50% in cold tanks. Aging is nine months on the lees, and the overall taste of the wine is lots of fruit with mineral undertones.
This is a wine that pairs particularly well with an SLO staple, California Red Abalone from the Cayucos Abalone Company. Also recommended for a pairing is Crostini with Sungold Tomatoes, Padron Peppers, Grilled Zucchini, Fresh Brebis and Spicy Pistachio Pesto. In fact the True Myth vineyard Is the only one where you can purchase these sought after Abalone Steaks
The 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon has a retail price of $24 and comes from six Vineyards in Paso Robles and is a very rich fruity wine with lots of blackberry, blueberry, pepper and should be a wine that evolves well over a long period of time. Fermentation takes place in closed and open top fermenters at 82 degrees for a maximum period of 28 days. The aging happens for 18 months in a mixture of French Oak and American Oak barrels that are 50% new. These grapes also come from older vines at least twenty plus years old and the harvesting period was four weeks in 2014 during September/October. The name True Myth by the way comes from Mother Nature and the idea that “The one True Myth is Mother Nature.”
If you do visit the tasting room you will find it located in the local Schoolhouse built by the farming community in 1909, which in California terms makes it historic. There are outside picnic areas and even bocce ball courts along with a gift shop stocking local goodies.
