QUALITY COMES FIRST WITH IICHIKO!

HOLLYWOOD (Spiritsman) 2/13/16–Another gem of Japanese Shochu has been released for US consumption and it is called Iichiko Shochu Blu, a delicious combination of water siphoned from the deep springs and streams located about 300 yards underground in the crystal clear air of the Oita Mountains in Japan. This one of the many fine and good products distilled and brewed by the Sanwa Shurui Company since 1958. In fact, the iichiko line of liquors was named after a survey poll during their marketing research and everyone answered fine and good, that’s exactly what iichiko means in the Oita dialect.

The whole line of iichiko Shochu’s have consistently scored in the Tier 2 Exotics Category which ranks them as a highly recommended spirit. Since its introduction, iichiko is a sugar-free 100% barley which yields a higher ABV than traditional saki. The Blu brand adds barley koji using a single distillation process utilizing techniques of low-pressure and atmospheric distillation.   The company prides themselves as having the #1 barley shochu in Japan.

There are four ways to enjoy the flavorings of iichiko Blu. The company recommends drinking this 60 proof shochu on the rocks or with hot or cold water. When consumed on the rocks you will enjoy the authentic taste and full aroma. When you mix a shot with cold water you feel its crisp aroma much like the freshness of the mountain air in Oita, Japan. By mixing a shot into a glass of hot water a convection- like process occurs creating a light and soft aroma on the palate. During my test it was decided that we sip it in a shot glass for its finest refinement. A glass of water or beer was needed to facilitate more shochu drinking.
