Introducing Spodee, the vintage that packs a punch
Hollywood,CA(Spiritsman )(Today;s Rundown )7/19/12/—We like a fine glass of grand cru as much as the next guy, but you know the saying: liquor is quicker. Thankfully, Steven Grasse, the genius who developed both Hendrick’s Gin and spicy Sailor Jerry Rum, has just concocted Spodee, the world’s first 36-proof wine.
Housed in a sturdy, old-school glass milk bottle — which you can return in exchange for a free t-shirt — Spodee gets its kick from bona fide moonshine, based on a Depression-era recipe utilized by hooch-loving raggedy-pant tramps.
Not being a fine vintage, this ain’t something you should quaff by the carafe, despite its yummy notes of grape and cocoa. But Spodee makes a fantastic mixer for sangria as well as some unusual cocktails, like the Spodee and Sody.
It’s currently only available in New Jersey and Pennsylvania stores, but thanks to the power of the Interwebz, anyone can order it online for less than $10. So order up, kick back, throw on some Stick McGhee, and let the ‘shine into your wine.
