WHISKY BOOM CONTINUES WITH BOONDOCKS
NEW OUTFIT LOOKING TO MAKE QUICK IMPACT
HOLLYWOOD(Spiritsman)1/3/17/–The Whisky boom continues unabated with the release of two expressions from a new company called BOONDOCKS. The Kentucky based company was founded by industry veteran Dave Scheurich and comes available in 95 Proof and Cask Strength 127 Proof. Scheurich came out of retirement to spearhead this new venture by the Royal Wine Corporation, and the aim of the veteran distiller was to come up with a whisky that was ultra-smooth in what is becoming a ridiculously competitive market. This project is quite a step forward for the low key Scheurich who has been the brains behind many whiskies we have all consumed the last forty years.
He has done well because this is a smooth tasting spirit that I tried a few ways and it is not surprising that the 95 proof is aged for 11 years in American white oak barrels in Kentucky. It is made from corn, rye and malt and although the press release on the taste and aroma is over ebullient, we can highly tout this product. Mentions of toasted marshmellows and cotton candy abound for a spirit that won a gold medal at the 2016 Los Angeles Spirits Festival and a finalist in the 2016 Ultimate Spirits Challenge.
The 127 Proof heavily features caramel and vanilla aromas and like the 95 has a long finish. A limited edition expression is in the works and look for some even more exciting happenings in 2017. Retail price for the 95 Proof is $39.99 and $59.99 for the 127 Proof. Packaging features the brand name nice and bold, with Dave Scheurich’s signature quite prominent as if he endorses every bottle that leaves the distillery.
Getting back to the Royal Wine Corporation, they have been producing Beer, wine and spirits all the way to the nineteenth century and the time of Baron Philip Herzog. Currently the whisky is available in limited supply in the following States-Arizona, California, Georgia, Illinois, Kentucky, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York and Texas with more following in 2017.
